These are the most driven, dedicated people I've ever met.

Talk to Campus Police:

Call the campus police building and DEMAND that the two students arrested at today's protest be LET GO and their charges be DROPPED.
Let me remind you that these were the two students that were ATTACKED by the police on their peaceful way out of the Admin building. These men did nothing wrong, did not assault any officers, yet were the victims of beatings and mace.
CALL NOW AND DEMAND THAT YOUR MONEY BE PUT TO BETTER USE THAN PICKING ON INNOCENT PROTESTORS.

Help Occupy LA.

This is a student-run blog geared towards-- as named-- helping the Occupy LA team.
The fact is, they do not have the man-power or the resources needed to be the catalyst for the changes that NEED to happen on this campus.
Eight students, give or take, occupied Milenburg Hall this morning.

Eight is simply not enough.
Eight is not even a drop in the bucket when compared to how many students there are on this campus.
Eight is not a challenge to take down, as witnessed when one Occupy LA-er was the unfortunate victim of police brutality during a peaceful walkthrough of the Admin building.
But I’m not here to discuss that. By lunch today, the event will have been worn and reworn until it’s worn out. I’m here to provoke you into joining Occupy LA.
I myself am not affiliated in any way with the organization—besides my undying respect and awe for what they’re doing here.
I hope you read this. I hope you understand.

FACT:
UNO has suffered 30% budget cuts within the last year. This has caused not only tuitions to rise and scholarships to lower, but it has forced maintenance workers to be fired, professors (tenured or not) to be let go, and dozens of student activities to be taxed out of existence.

These have led to even more problems: filthy buildings (everyone has heard about the cockroaches in P-Hall, and the rats in the various colleges,) larger class-sizes (which, of course, lead to a more generalized education instead of the focused attention our tuition SHOULD be securing us,) and less campus activity (a funny irony for a school that is trying to encourage on-campus living.)

The administration has chosen to, instead of solving these problems through negotiations with the state board or expressing their displeasure to anyone besides the student population, to just let these things happen. To let our money go down the drain and straight into some Head Honcho's already gold-lined pockets. Do you know what LSU System President John Lombardi is making per year?

A whooping $600, 000.
LSU Board of Regent Commissioner, Sally Clausen?
$400, 000.
LSU Chancellor?
$400, 000.
And, finally, our own Chancellor, Tim Ryan?
$250, 000.

For what? Where is this money coming from? With all of these enormous cuts, this crippling economy, this utter failure to provide for education what we have been promised, where are these ridiculous salaries coming from?
OUT OF YOUR POCKET.
You are paying for these men and women to live the life of luxury, while you struggle to make it from semester to semester.
You are paying for these roach-infested halls and 200+ classes.
You are not paying for a "quality education."

FICTION:
CHANGE WILL COME IF WE WAIT THE PROBLEMS OUT.

FACT:
WE MUST TAKE DECISIVE ACTION, IMMEDIATELY.
If we do not prove to the university that we are not content to take these injustices lying down, we will be overrun and shipped out.
Things will not just get better.
You cannot expect for others to do what needs to be done.
You, personally, must take action.
You, personally, must be a part of the change.
